The Bachelorette: Brooke Blurton calls Abbie Chatfield a ‘privileged white woman’

The Bachelorette’s Brooke Blurton has sensationally called her former friend Abbie Chatfield a ‘narcissist’ after she went public with one of her contestants, Konrad Bien-Stephens, the day before her season finale.

Blurton, 26, the franchise’s first Indigenous and bisexual lead, said the move was another example of a ‘white woman displaying what white privilege looks like’ in a blistering statement on Instagram on Thursday.

She said she was ‘not a hostile person’ by nature but felt compelled to speak out after feeling ‘personally and mentally disrupted’ by the events of finale week – which many fans saw as Chatfield trying to steal Blurton’s spotlight.

‘Everyone who watched the show, or was on the cast and/or working as crew, will know that I put my heart and soul into it and it meant a lot for me to open myself up so vulnerably like that,’ Blurton said.

‘Not only that, but for what it meant for the LGBTGIA+ and First Nations Community to have that display of representation. Which moves on to my new point. The hardest point.’

While she didn’t identify Chatfield by name, she continued: ‘For that to be tainted once again by 1. what I thought was a close friend. 2. Another white woman displaying what white privilege looks like. 3. A very clear display of narcissism…

‘Hurts me. Literally pains me.’

Bien-Stephens, 31, formed a strong connection with Blurton on The Bachelorette but was eliminated after home visits.

The landscaper later began dating Chatfield and news of their romance leaked well before his exit aired on television, effectively spoiling the show.

Blurton said she’d reached out to Chatfield to resolve the conflict but didn’t seem to be satisfied by her response.

She continued: ‘Classic naïve me, adult me went to this person to communicate openly about the layers of complexity that this person’s actions show and take away from not only me, but what it meant for a queer woman of colour.

‘If this wasn’t me, I’d still have this stance.’

Blurton concluded: ‘You guys asked for my comment. There it is. Now go give them more airtime in which is what this is exactly about.’

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Abbie Chatfield for comment.

Elsewhere in the post, Blurton said she and winning contestant Darvid Garayeli were appreciative of all the messages of support they had received since the finale.

She also said she was still grieving her sister, who died during filming.

Blurton said the couple had decided to stay away from social media for the week, saying: ‘I’ve promised myself, Darv, my family and my angel sister that I’ll take the time to heal. It will take more than a week but this is a start.’

The pair’s feud began when reports surfaced last month that Chatfield was dating Bien-Stephens, a fan favourite from Blurton’s season.

He was still a contestant on the show when the rumours first surfaced.

Daily Mail Australia published a video of the couple kissing at a bar in Byron Bay on November 5 – before his exit from the show aired.

This footage not only outed them as a couple, but served as a major Bachelorette spoiler by confirming Bien-Stephens didn’t win Blurton’s heart.

Ouch! Rumours of a feud soon emerged after online sleuths noticed Blurton had unfollowed the Love Island Afterparty host on Instagram

Intriguing: Chatfield does, however, still follow Blurton

Chatfield, who previously vowed to never speak publicly about her dating life, went Instagram official with Konrad on November 24 – the day before Blurton’s finale.

To make things even more awkward, she appeared in the last episode of The Bachelorette – which was filmed months ago – as one of Blurton’s ‘best friends’.

While Chatfield has yet to respond to Blurton’s scathing statement, she did say earlier this week the timing of her relationship announcement was not a ‘PR stunt’.

However, former Bachelorette Angie Kent called Chatfield’s behaviour ‘opportunistic’ and suggested she used the show to drum up a ‘media circus’ for her own benefit.
